SPECIAL ALERT NOTICE TO PEP OBSERVERS

In a recent letter from Dr. Richard Wade of the California Institute of Technology, he wrote:

"The enclosed article by Roger Griffin points out the strong possibililty of eclipses in the bright spectroscopic binary star HR 913 on 1980 September 30. Confirming that there are eclipses in this system and obtaining a good light curve of the event would be of great value in establishing a better relation between mass and spectral type for solar-type stars. (In my own recent work, I have been frustrated by the lack of high quality data of this very sort!)

"I think that watching for this eclipse on the nights of Sept. 29/30 and Sept. 30/Oct. 1 would be a project ideally sorted to those AAVSO members who have photoelectric photometers. It is unlikely that professional astronomers will observe this event, since it requires large amounts of observing time on a rather bright object."

The article by R. Griffin and a finding chart of the field is enclosed.  [link to Griffin's paper: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1980Obs...100..113G] [finder chart not available 5/2016]

Your observations [of HR 913 = HD 18894] will be processed at HQ and a copy of each of your data will be sent to Dr. Wade.

Your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Good observing.
