Background/Interesting Fact
I've been a member of AAVSO for some time, with some lapses here and there. I proudly wear a 25 year pin. I began as a visual observer, then got the CCD bug and submitted a number of observations, hopefully of increasing quality. Recently, my CCD camera bit the dust-literally! The collar holding it broke (!) and let the camera fall to the floor of my small observatory. So, will be looking for a replacement.
My equipment is a home-made 9 inch Wright telescope, f:4, on a home-made mount. I recently upgraded the drive, and control the pointing with a JackRabbit microprocessor.
My background is physics; I'm retired from the Radio Astronomy Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley, where I worked doing mostly software development, but had some fun doing optical designs, too.
