Several other Sections have begun holding periodic zoom meetings, notably the exoplanet section.

What do you folks think about I&E hosting zoom meetings? Also: When?? I'm retired in the EST time zone, where are you all and what's your availability?

Some possible topics are:

  • A tour of two to three section members' rigs
  • Equipment insurance
  • First impressions of a particular gadget
  • A show-and-tell of DIY items
  • Product comparisons and/or vendor experiences

And I encourage others to suggest topics, either on this thread or via DM to me.

As part of this effort I'd like to assemble a mailing list of readers and contributors of I&E posts. Sadly, the existing forum software does not do this directly, so I must ask you to directly email me if you're interested. My email is: pbealo@comcast.net

Zoom Meetings

Peter,

I think that is an excellent idea. Spectroscopy also holds regular Zoom meetings and I find the live interaction very helpful. I like the idea of several members presenting their rigs and discuss their workflow from setup, capture, and photometry.

I&E Zoom Meetings?

Peter and Barbara,

I'm in for this idea, and willing to join, if and when an I&E Zoom meeting is organized. One of the most time-consuming and exasperating tasks in backyard astronomy is rig & software implementation, especially when you are an amateur within a 5,000-mile radius of your more experienced colleagues. My rig is at 20S, 44W and nobody around me does CCD photometry or spectroscopy.

I am in the Exoplanet, the PEP, and the Spectroscopy Zoom meeting groups, and they teach me a lot. However, those groups do not focus on the I&E issues.

Best regards,

Ari (SAMA)
