Inner Sanctum LPVs for June 2012

Attached here are the LPVs that will be fainter than 13.5V at some point in June (usually a good portion of thre month).

There is a Word doc file, and a .csv file. For some reason the RA gets truncated going from word to .csv, so the .csv file is less useful if you want to sort. If anyone can tell me how to fix this, or do it yourself, post a revised version here for others to use, and tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong!

Thanks, and enjoy.

I looked at the .csv file

I looked at the .csv file with a text editor, and all the RAs have one digit to the right of the decimal point, so the truncation happens when the .csv file is created.

Looks like the .csv RAs are in the Excel "Custom" format of mm:ss.0.  The RA cells are default-formatted to that format by Excel, so R And's RA (wink wink, nudge nudge) is displayed as 24:01.9.  To get the RA displayed normally, the cell format must be set to a "Custom" format you create (isn't this fun?).  Use the mm:ss.0 format already in the Custom format list as a base and change it to hh:mm:ss.0.

If you can get two digits to the right of the decimal point in the .csv file, then just change the Custom format in Excel to hh:mm:ss.00 and Bob's your uncle.  Even better is if you can create the .csv file with the RAs already in the hh:mm:ss.00 format.

Re: I looked at the .csv file

The same problem appears in the .csv files that are generated by the basic observation planner.  I sent a message about it last week via the feedback page but I don't know if it ever got to someone.  I was going to follow up after everyone returned from the meeting.

Excel is probably converting it

Hi Tim,

If you're able to, please try making a .csv file with the Basic Observation Planner, but open it with a text editor like notepad before you open it with Excel.  My strong suspicion is that you'll see it properly formatted in the .csv file before Excel gets ahold of it, and that this is a "feature" of Excel rather than a bug in the observation planner.  I just created a .csv file and opened it with OpenOffice without any problem.

I'm technically on vacation at the moment, but I'll see if I can figure out a fast workaround for Excel that won't break it in other programs.

Observation Planner .csv now works with custom format

Matt,

The files now generated by the observation planner format the RA correctly if the column is formatted to Excel custom format h:mm:ss.  However, I wasn't able to pull the same trick for Mike's files above.

Thanks for putting a fix in so fast.
