Exact time of the GP Com observations on April 29th

Dear All,

The exact UT time of the GP Com observations is the following:

April 29th 2022 23:22:51 - Apr 30, 2022 01:54:27

The data collected tonight and tomorrow will be the most crucial to assess the safety of the target for the HST detectors.

Good luck with your observations and thanks a lot for your support :)

All the best,

Anna

Note high proper motion

FYI, I had a bit of a problem getting this one measured with otherwise trusted Lesve Photometry until I noticed that this one has a rather high proper motion. At epoch 2022, the position is rather 13 05 41.9 +18 01 04.5, or about 6 arcsec away from the J2000 position given in the alert (using the epoch J2000 coordinates made the software miss the variable).

RY Ser to be observed by HST in May

Dear All,

The HST observations of GP Com were completed on April 30th, thanks a lot for all your data.

The next target will be RY Ser. We still don't have an exact date for the HST observations, but they will happen this month.
I'll post here the details once we have it. In the meanwhile, it would be great if you could start monitoring this target nightly.

Thanks and good luck with your observations!

All the best,
Anna

Observations tonight on RY Ser show it to be active and above its normal faint state, could be rising?

RY Ser likely going into outburst right now

Hi Rod,

Thanks! It does look like the system is going into outburst right now.

I just received the notification from the HST team that the observations are scheduled for the 19th. From the historical data, I expect the system to be back in quiescence in about one week. If this is going to be case, we should be fine for the HST observations.

Cheers,

Anna

HST observations of RY Ser scheduled for May 19th

Dear All,

The HST observations of RY Ser are scheduled for May 19th.
I'll post here the details with the exact UT time in the next days.

The system seems to be going into outburst right now.
The days right before the HST observations, RY Ser will be close to the Moon. Please, keep observing it also in this conditions. The data might be affected by the Moon but RY Ser is relatively bright and the data quality should be good enough to understand whether the system is back to quiescence (and safe to be observed by HST).

Thanks and good luck with the observations :)

Best,
Anna

HST observations of RY Ser postponed to June

Dear All,

Because of some adjustment with the HST schedule, the observations of RY Ser have been postpone to June. The new date is still to be decided and I'll update this post once I have the details.

Since the HST observations have been postponed, it is not so as critical as before obtaining data in the next few days, when the target is close to the Moon. In case the Moon is making your observations too difficult, the monitoring can be suspended without problems till May 20th. After that, It would be great if you could continue with the nightly monitoring of this target.

Thanks a lot for all your work!

All the best,

Anna

HST observations of RY Ser scheduled for June 10th

Dear All,

The HST observations of RY Ser have now been scheduled for June 10th, between 00:14:23 and 03:44:08 UT.
All the data you collected in the last weeks suggest that the system is back to quiescence after the outburst that occurred at the beginning of May. Hopefully, it will remain in quiescence for another week.

It would be great if you could continue with the nightly observations of this target till Sunday 12th.
The most critical observations will be those of the night of the 9th, since will be used by the HST team to give the final approval.

Thanks for all your work!

All the best,
Anna

HST observations of RY Ser

Dear Josch, Dear All,

Thanks for the notification about the outburst and for monitoring this target.

We have been very unlucky with this outburst happening right before the HST observations.
It has been quite difficult to decide what to do given the brightness of the system.
Thanks to your optical observations, we were able to estimate the expected flux in the ultraviolet, which resulted just below the safety threshold of the HST instrument. Nonetheless, given the uncertainties associated with this estimate, it was impossible to ensure that the HST observations could be executed without endangering the detectors. Therefore, yesterday night, no data were collected for RY Ser by HST.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your contribution and support. Your observations have been crucial to preserve the HST detector during this brightening event and we really appreciate your effort in supporting our HST program.

All the best,
Anna

July and August target swap

Dear All,

Your observations of UU Aql have shown that the system goes into outburst every 2 months.
The last outburst happened in May so the next one should, most likely, occur in July.
Originally, we planned to observe UU Aql in July but, given the high chances of an outburst occurring next month, we agreed with the HST team to swap the July and August targets.

This means that UU Aql will be observe by HST in August while V485 Aqr will be observed in July.
The exact dates of the observations of both objects are still to be decided, and I'll post here the details once I have them.

Therefore, for the next weeks, the highest priority target is V485 Aqr. However, it would be helpful if you could still take some data for UU Aql in order to verify that the outburst will happen in July as expected (e.g. one observation every two days would be enough).

Fell free to reach out in case of any doubts or questions.

Thanks a lot and all the best!

HST observations of V485 Aqr scheduled for July 29th

Dear All,

V485 Aqr is scheduled to be observed by HST next Friday, Jul 29th, between UT 00:34:33 and 06:17:04.

Any observations that you can provide in the next days will be the most crucial to assess the safety of the target for the HST detectors. Given that the HST observations will occur on the night between Thursday and Friday, the data collected on Wednesday night will be decisive to allow the HST team to give its final approval.

Thanks a lot and good luck with your observations :)

Anna

V485 Aqr completed - UU Aql scheduled for August 19th

Dear All,

The HST observations of V485 Aqr have been successfully completed last Friday, thanks for your help and hard work!

It would be very helpful if you could continue with the nightly observations of UU Aql, which has now been scheduled to be observed by HST on August 19th. I'll post here the exact time of the observations in the next few days.

Thank a lot and all the best,

UT time of the HST observations of UU Aql

Dear All,

The exact UT time of the UU Aql observations is the following:

August 19th 2022 20:24:58 - 22:57:00

The data collected on Wednesday and Thursday night will be the most crucial to assess the safety of the target for the HST detectors. It would be very helpful if you could continue monitoring UU Aql and try to obtain two or three positive measurements per night (in V or CV), from today till the 19th.

Good luck with your observations :)

Thanks a lot,
Anna

UU Aql completed - ASASSN-14cn scheduled for September 1st

Dear All,

The HST observations of UU Aql have been successfully completed last Friday, thanks for all your observations!

The next HST target, ASASSN-14cn, has already been scheduled for next week.
The observations will be executed between 01 Sep 2022 23:46:01 UT and 02 Sep 2022 08:33:58 UT.
Sorry for the short notice, we also learnt about this only yesterday.

Thanks a lot for having already started the monitoring of this object. Next week, the data collected on the night of Wednesday 31st and Thursday 1st will be the most crucial to assess the safety of the target for the HST detectors. It would be very helpful if you could try to obtain two or three positive measurements per night (in V or CV), from today till the 2nd.

All the best,
Anna

Thank you

Dear All,

Sorry for the long silence and thanks a lot for all the data for ASASSN-14cn, the HST observations were successfully completed last month.

We would also like to thank you all for your support during the last year.
Your observations have been extremely valuable to assess the safety of each target for the HST detectors and we couldn't have succeed without your help!

We are working on the data and we'll keep you posted about any developments :)

All the best,
Anna
