I gave a paper at the recent joint AAVSO/SAS meeting about limiting magnitudes. The powerpoint can be found (at least for the time being) at
ftp://ftp.aavso.org/public/aavsonet/arne/sas_2017.pdf
This presentation shows three fields at 2hr, 8hr, and 16hr RA with images from large telescopes that go below 25th magnitude, along with a table of photometry. They make good test targets to see how faint you can go with your setup, for visual or digital observers. If you want to do something different for fun, or to experiment with different techniques to see if you can improve your skills, you might look at one of these fields. I have many more such fields in my research collection - I'm always working at the limit of whatever 'scope I'm using!
Arne
Arne,
I'm reading again your paper in the Proceedings from the Spring AAVSO/SAS meeting. I'd also like to get the Powerpoint with the additional deep photometry fields, but it seems the file is no longer available at the FTP address. Could you please post that Powerpoint again.
Phil Sullivan
Hi Phil,
Unfortunately, HQ lost a hard drive on the anonymous ftp computer, so that service is no longer available. They are working to provide anonymous ftp on another system soon. In the meantime, anyone who wants that presentation just needs to contact me directly, and I'll send the pdf of the powerpoint privately. Yours will be sent in a few minutes.
Arne
Arne,
Thanks for sending the Powerpoint. Will the paper be in the next JAAVSO? If not, is there a way to get the paper for people who don't have access to the printed Proceedings of the meeting?
Phil
