The new version of the Photometry Transformation Generation Program - PTGP V. 5.0 is now available. The program makes the calculation of Photometry transforms much easier. Spreadsheets are no longer required! There is also a new interface to VPHOT enabling automatic selection of the standard stars in M67 and NGC7790. Details can be found at www.aavso.org/tg Note the Users Guide provides answers to specific questions. The program runs on Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu (Linux).
Major changes since Version 4.0 include –
- Calculation of transform one sigma error estimates
- Calculation of transform “r-squared” measure
- Use of AUID or “Boulder” star ids
- VSP standard star magnitudes retrieved from the AAVSO web site (requiring an active Internet connection)
- VPHOT download file interface
- MaxIm instrument file interface
- Change of transform names to use AAVSO standard (previously saved 4.0 transform sets are lost)
- Added V-I transforms (Tvi, Tv_vi, Ti_vi, Tr_vi)
- Instrumental magnitudes are averaged if multiple values provided
- Changed format of final transform export file to match .ini format used by AAVSO tool TransformApplier

I dont know if this is a Mac Yosemitie issue, but i can't seem to get ptgp to load up ...
do i need to have vphot or anything else live before it loads?
i attach the text from my automator box which refers to V5.1 (note the difference in the instructions on the web which dictate V5.0) btut otherwise appears to be as instructed. I do note that in the text of the "how to creat mac icon" piece some of the text string is a bit different - could this be where the issue lies? the anaconda is 1.9.1 as advised....
any help appreciated - i'll keep an eye for other posts on the matter.

You do not need VPhot active to load PTGP.
However, your two screen shots refer to PTGP V4.0, V5.0 and V5.1 in the script lines?
Which version are you trying to install? Need to be consistent. Is this the first time you have installed PTGP on your mac?
Was anaconda 1.9.1 installed previously and is it working properly?

the v4 and v5 are actually on the clip i took from the instruction sheet on the website. the file that downloaded was actuallty called 5.1 and so i amended the script from the website to read 5.1 - that clip referring to 5.1 was my actual script within automator.
the zip download containing the anaconda is badged 1.9.1 - and this is the first time i have installed it. i'm not sure how totell if it is working properly but it does appear to be working correctly. there is a program called A Launcher that has appeared on my desktop and this appears to be a launch platform for anaconda and contains some sample programmes that do appear to launch correctly. one of the programmes has gone off to download some tools from the net to finish installing. i attach an image of the launcher and one of the programmes it launches.
i'm not sure how to check which version of anaconda is running but the zip said 1.9.1....
It looks like you installed Anaconda in your private user file, not at the top of the hard drive. Note the install instructions try to highlight being sure you pick the option to install to avoid this. If you have suggested wording changes on the install directions, let me know.
You can confirm by looking at Finder. You should see the structure in the attached - i.e.
Macintosh HD / Anaconda / Photometry.
I think you'll see your Anaconda folder was put under your personal user folder, not under Macintosh HD

mmmm thought htat was going to do it but not quite yet it seems...attached is the screenshot showing where the relevant files are. have i missed yet more simple stuff ??
It seems to be working now. I needed to reinstall anaconda and the it asked me to download and install something called X11 from quartzX so the transform program is running although the rendering seems blocky. I'll send an update later. Thanks very much for the help.
i managed to get the ptgp to load.
but just incase anyone can see why it may look the way it does i attach a screenshot - seems very low resolution on my Mac - but maybe that is just cosmetic. i look forward to using it when i can get some images.

Actually it seems to be a font difference - but other than requiring one to maximize the window it seems to run fine. The plots should all look great and all the text should be readable.
I'm hoping anaconda 2.0.x - whatever their next release will be, will have the problems fixed that prevent PTGP from running properly on a Mac. It does fix the screen appearance problem but causes other problems.

You can do a quick test run on PTGP - create telescope T17, select the PTGP/AIP4WIN format, select "M67" and the test file you copied to the Photometry folder (M67_T17_20140330_Photometry_Demo_instrument_mags.txt), click "calculate transform set" and you should be on your way.
What is the current status of PTGP for Mac (OS 10.9.5)? I'll be using VPhot for the photometry. I already have X11 (XQuartz) installed. This would be my prefered method if it's working properly.
My second choice would be to install PTGP on the Win7 computer in the observatory, but I'd only want do that if there are persistent problems with the Mac version.

PTGP works on a mac with mavericks (10.9). I'm not a mac person but I got it to work on my mac mini.Try it if that is your preferred machine.
The one thing you need to be aware of is that you should/need to close an open plot of a coefficient BEFORE you open the next one.There is even a simple workaround for this but it makes things easier!
So go for it on your mac.

I tested PTGP V5.1 on my MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.9.5, and using anaconda 1.9.1 and it ran fine.
