I've been experiencing problems today with LCG. E.g. I can plot an LC of V1405 Cas, but when I come to change anything about the LC (e.g. change from JD to calendar date, or select specific intervals of dates, or specific filters) it either takes an age, or just hangs - the green dial rotates for a while suggesting it is acquiring the data to plot, but then times out. It seems worse with rich data sets like V1405 Cas.

Problems with LCG

Hello Jeremy,

Sorry to hear about the problem you experienced with the LCG. Is it still hanging for you? I just tried requesting the same star and it seemed to work OK for me today. Perhaps there was a heavy load on our server at the time you tried. That star does have a lot of data, so it could be slow, but it should load before it times out. Please let me know if the issue persists.

Many thanks, Sara

LCG will hang...

V1405 Cas has over 50,000 observations in the last 10 months. Assuming you plot them all you can expect LCG to wedge up.  Its a design problem in the software.  Anything over 10,000 observations makes my own laptop grind to near halt, and 100,000 will truly overwhelm the browser (I must kill off the LCG tab).

The initial data display always works - it's when you try making adjustments that the problems occur.

LCG still has several problems

Sadly, LCGv2 performance for large datasets is not good compared to LCGv1, and still has several bugs. For example, even if you pick the "Calendar Date" vs "Julian Date" display option, the abscissa always shows JD regardless of choice!
