American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO)

I just took an submitted my observation of V Mon and it was brighter than the chart's Magn said it should be. Is this my first Outburst or did I do something wrong?
Hi Seer, the magnitudes on the chart are a indication. Stars often gets brighter or fainter than the magnitudes on the AAVSO charts. But I looked at your estimation on the LGC and I see that your estimation is 2 magnitudes brighter than the other estimations. So, probably you looked at the wrong star. Can you take an other look?
When I make observations I make multiple checks and rechecks but I am human so there is always the possibility of a mistake. V Mon itself is a red star which is a very good identifier. Maybe somehow I screwed up with the comparison stars? I did have some trouble with my star hop stars HIP 28413 & HIP 30093 from Alnitak. I was using that north south split ridge of stars as an indicator also (which has me wondering how related to each other those stars are and if V Mon has something to do with the gap). Hopefully I will get to observe it again tonight.
I went out and scrutinize the hell out of the situation tonight and discovered that I was mistaking HD 44131, HR 2275, SAO 133118, HIP 30093, TYC 4788-3059-1, BD-02 1564, Gaia DR2 for V Mon.
I found out how to delete the entry that I had made and did so.
This has been kind of disappointing for me. I was hoping that I discovered something first. :(
One positive thing is that estimated magnitude for the star was dead on. Just to bad it wasn't the correct star.
