Hi,
I've recently begun getting spectra with an Alpy 600 and would like to know if there are any AAVSO campaigns in which lower resolution spectra would be important. At this point I am restricted to fairly bright objects.
Thanks

Hi Dick,
It's great you are doing spectroscopy! The AAVSO Target Tool is a good place to find observing campaigns requesting spectroscopy as well as other stars that need spectroscopy. To use the Target Tool, click the link on the Target Tool page and log in. If you don't have a free account, create one. Select the list you want to explore (Alerts/Campaigns, Long Period Variables, CVs, etc. - the All list includes all the stars on all the lists). Then click on the Filter/Mode header to sort all the entries by filter or mode of observing. All the Spectroscopy targets will be together.
A couple of AAVSO observing campaigns that have asked for spectrosopy and for which low resolution spectra would be appropriate, and which have a bright star as the target, are described in Alert Notice 700 (EE Cep) and Alert Notice 714 (b Per).
Best wishes, and Good observing,
Elizabeth
Nova Per 2020 is now also a good practice object for low res spectroscopy I guess. Should be really useful to learn how to calibrate the spectrum etc, and there are lots of high quality spectra taken for this object to compare results to.
This is a target I'd need spectroscopy for to confirm the Lambda Bootis characteristics.

at ~12A resolution the resolution of the ALPY 600 is on the low side for detailed spectral classification though and would fall short of the 2A resolution target suggested by Brian in the thread on this

Nova Cas 2021 should be excellent for experimenting with even the Star Analyser , let alone higehr resolution equipment.

As well as submitting spectra to the AAVSO database (and perhaps the BAA database) they would also be welcomed by ARAS who have coordinated a number of international spectroscopic campaigns on novae with professionals in the past.
Cheers
