Dear all,

I am using VPHOT and I identified 2 problems :

- I use "VSX" option at right up of the menu

Several stars appear. I do an anaysis log, and get a beautiful LC of a star named CRT...

But when I click on the image, VPHOT telle me the star has no AUID

another problem

- I catched the LC of a variable star not in GCVS and not in VSX but identified in ASAS SN.

The LC is beautiful : an eclipsng binary mag 15 with 1 mag depth

So I have many data to upload but cannot do it

SO the data are lost ? they go to the bin ?

Thanks

Jean

PS : I cannot upload an image of my field on the message

In VSX without an AUID

Jean,

If the star is in VSX without an AUID I believe you can request one by going to VSX and bringing up the star. There should be a button next to the name for making the request.
If I'm wrong, then and email to vsx@aavso.org should fix the problem.

If the star is not in VSX, then you can email the vsx team and ask how to have it added. You might need to do some research.

Cheers,
George

AUIDs and stars not in VSX

Hi Jean,

I see we have already addressed these questions in private.
George is right.

You also have to keep in mind that even when data for nearly all stars are welcomed (excepting milimagnitude objects, unless the ability to record such variations is proved), there are millions of variable stars and there is no specific reason to get data for all of them.
I am saying this because of your comments about the data "being lost" or "going to the bin".
The star that you described as being an ASAS-SN variable, seems to be a run of the mill eclipsing binary, ASAS-SN already analyzed it and since the ATLAS catalogue name is given in the ASAS-SN page, that is telling you that it is not an ASAS-SN discovery but an ATO variable.
The ASAS-SN elements will be better than those from the ATLAS catalogue and you will be able to determine a V range from the ASAS-SN light curve.

So if you want to submit data for this object, first you have to submit it to VSX, adding the ATLAS primary name, the ATLAS catalogue reference, giving them as discoverers (all explained in the VSX FAQ page) and including the ASAS-SN information in the table and the ASAS-SN paper and ASAS-SN SKy Patrol references in the respective fields.
If you have data that you want to include in the analysis, you can combine survey data with them and get an even improved period.

Please read the VSX help files available (Manual, FAQ) that I already mentioned to you, in order to know the process in more detail:
