(edit: I changed the title to something more speaking about this thread)

Hi,

I am new to Vphot, and wanted to try it out with 23 fits files. After some trying and erroring I managed to make a time series.
But, if I try to visualise it, I get an error message :

Server Error in '/app' Application.

Input string was not in a correct format.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

I must say I did have some problems in generating the time series, it seems Vphot does not like the TG filter from my fitsheader, but in the end I did manage to get some magnitudes in my "Photometry Report".

If you need more info, please ask...

Kind Regards,
Pieter.

Analysis Log Issue?

Pieter:

Please share the 23 images to MZK and SGEO.

Please describe what "visualize it" means. What are the specific steps you are trying?

sharing ok, and explanation how to provoke error

Hi Ken,

I've done the sharing.

Problem is visible in this way :
go to '"analysis log",
tick on the result of the time series analysis,
get the error message.

Or, after the time series analysis is finished, you get a message that it is finished and that you can click on a link and to get the actual analysis "Continue to the results page", and that gives the same error message.

The only a bit "odd" thing I remarked in my fitsheaders is the filter, which is indicated as being "TG" : the photo's are taken with a ZWO2600mc color camera. In AstroImageJ I calibrated them, in ASTAP I extracted the green channel, and this way the fits header gets the "TG" filter. Vphot also thinks the images are not calibrated, but they are (through AstroImageJ).

Hope this helps...
Pieter.

Some extra info.

Some extra info about how I treated one single image :

Images -> click on the link of one image.

Arrived at the image, I made a sequence with the Catalog "AAVSO Comp stars"

In that sequence there is one check star, and several comp stars. There are also 'several' variables, including V536 Peg. I called that sequenc v536 PEG

Then I push the button -> "View Photometry Report'.

When I arrive at the "single image photometry" page, NO magnitudes are shown.

- "For magnitude estimation use" : I change the "TG" to "V", and leave the "Report as" at "TG",
- I toggle the link "Toggle active" to select all the comparison stars, and then I do a "refresh".

This gives me the magnitude estimates, and I choose "keep this".

And then I continue to the time series, which gives afterwards the indicated problem.

Look at AAVSO Report for Single Image Photometry

Pieter:

I followed your explanation but noticed that you did not generate an AAVSO Report for the single image that you analyzed and saved with 'keep this'. You just jumped ahead to the time series.

Generate an AAVSO Report for the single analysis you saved (keep this).

What do you notice in the report? This should explain why the time series does not work?

Think about this for a while. What other options might there be to make this work. Unfortunately, it requires a manual edit of your report file to fix the filter name.

Comments?

How to Create Time Series Report with TG filter

Pieter:

You should be able to generate the report shown below IF you 'rename' the TG filter to V, run the time series, save an aavso report, and then edit the report with NotePad++. Based on your previous descriptions, I think you can figure this out. I gave more hints than I usually do.  ;-)

Nice delta scuti light curve!

fits header bulk adaptation

Hi Ken,

Thanx for your extensive and fast reply.
Instead of tinkering with the old files (I deleted them from VPHOT), I tried to adapt the original ones.

So, I did find a script on the PixInsight forum "BatchditFITSSingleKeyword.js" to bulk adapt the fitsheader from filter = "TG" to filter = "V".
Works fine and fast.

But, now there seems to be another problem.
When I upload a series of photo's, in the last phase there is a link to the server processing queue. I managed to see my last two files being processed there.

But, after that I go to the images pages, and nothing is shown

So, I am stuck again !

Wrong Choice!

Pieter:

You didn't look carefully enough. There is a 'rename' tool in VPhot. Very simple to use.

Do you have the unmodified files you shared to me or did you change them with the script you mentioned? I hope not! PixInsight does all sorts of bad things to photometry files!  ;-(

Delete the 23 (or less) images you have on vphot now.  Can you upload the original files again? If not, I will share the images back to you.

Tell me when you are ready.

oeps...

I'm uploading the…

oeps...

I'm uploading the old files now. Using the upload wizard, and yes it indicates the "wrong" filter. Changed it to V, and now I am uploading 10 other photo's.
Now I do find them under images, and made an analysis of the first one. Went well.

Then I did a time seriess analysis,and... it worked !

Conclusions :
1. If files have been tinkered with using ASTAP (in this case extracting the green channel), do use the upload wizard instad of the quick wizard

2. Stay away from PixInsight for adapting fitsheaders

I wish you a nice weekend, me, I'm off to a star party (Belgium)  !

Pieter.
