Today I report with sadness the passing of Arlo Landolt. Although a giant of the AAVSO, he was a kind, modest, and gentle soul. The corpus of his life's work has made a major contribution to our understanding of the cosmos. The "Landolt Fields" remain as a part of his legacy facilitating accurate measurements of variable stars. Thank you, Arlo, for enriching all of our lives. May his memory be a blessing and may he rest in peace amongst the stars.

I knew Arlo for several decades, and knew of him for even longer. I don't know of anyone who was so quiet and unassuming, yet had so much respect from both the amateur and professional communities. I considered him a great friend. I am truly at a loss for words.
Perhaps we can consider dedicating the next AAVSO meeting to Arlo, and include presentations on subjects he liked? His 80th birthday "bash" might be a good starting point!

This is indeed sad news.
I was fortunate enough to meet Arlo several times. He was easy to talk to and I always enjoyed conversations with him. He had some great stories.
