Hello! After taking a hiatus, I am now in a position to restart my CCD photometry program.

I want to do some review. In the CCD School and the CCD Handbook, additional readings are suggested.

One book I had read is "The Handbook of Astronomical Image Processing" edition 1. I am wondering if edition 2 (2006) would be worth purchasing for photometry? Or is the information presented essentially unchanged from edition 1?

In addition to the books on those reading lists, would any other sources be helpful?

Previously, much of my time had been spent getting my equipment to acquire reasonably good images. I'd like to go a bit beyond that for my review, perhaps even into some of the basic statistics behind image photometry calibration and analysis. Thank you and best regards.

Mike,

Welcome Back.

IMO, the software alone is worth the price of the upgrade.  The software underwent a major overhaul with the second edition and has been updated several times since.  I love the flexability of this software for photometlry processing and it is well worth spending time with to lean just how flexible it is.

Between the book and the software there can occur a signiciant understanding of image statitics if one has that interest.

I agree with Tim about AIP4W ver 2.x and B&B's Handbook..., 2nd edition.

My next favorite CCD book is Handbook of CCD Astronomy,  Steve B. Howell.   It is beautifully, and very clearly written.  ...expensive, but worth it.   Used, paper backs are available on-line.
