Is this possible? I have not made my first observation and would appcriate the benefit of your experience before purchasing filters.

Can I begin without filters?

Also what filters should be used?

If current valid information is found in your documentation please point me in that direction.

I both a CCD & CMOS camera.

Thank you

What filters to start with?

If you are just starting out observing for the AAVSO, there are many  things to learn! I wouldn't worry about a filter until you have the data collection and reduction under your belt. Data sent to VPhot if done with no filter would be classified as CV, Clear and referenced to V.

For eclipisng binary observations you don't even care about filters: the main goal is to establish the time-of-minimum.

If you CMOS camera is color, with a bayer array, then you automatically have 3 filters! Take a look at DSLR manual in the main menu:  Observing/Observing Manuals

If you get the bug to do photometry then start with the V filter, then add in B and R. With these you will be ready to add really useful data to the database.
