AAVSO Bulletin

The AAVSO Bulletin: Predicted Dates of Maxima and Minima of Long Period Variables was a long-running publication of the AAVSO. It gave predictions of dates of maxima and minima for hundreds of long period variables (Miras and semiregulars) in the AAVSO program, and was intended to be an observing guide and planning tool for all observers of LPV stars, amateur and professional alike.

The last published Bulletin - Bulletin 81 - was for January 2018 through February 2019.

In 2011 the AAVSO Bulletin was significantly changed in its presentation and in the options available to the user. The fixed-format file had a very new look and contained more information than in the past. The Bulletin Generator, a dynamic form allowing the user to generate a customized Bulletin, was introduced in 2011 with Bulletin 74.  It let you choose your combination of stars, constellations, months, RA/Dec ranges, magnitude range, and choose an HTML table or a CSV file suitable for loading into a spreadsheet. It also provided links for each star to the AAVSO Light Curve Generator, International Variable Star Index (VSX), and AAVSO maxima/minima values.

AAVSO Bulletin 81: Predicted Dates of Maxima and Minima of Long Period Variables for 2018

Note: Great caution should be exercised if trying to predict future maxima/minima based on the dates predicted in Bulletin 81. Long period variables are not perfectly periodic, and their period can vary from cycle to cycle. Other aspects of their nature may cause a maximum to occur early or late. Predictions that are not based on the measured dates of the most recently observed maxima/minima may be off by a few to tens (or more) of days.
