Alert Notice 352: V390 Nor = Nova Normae 2007

June 20, 2007

SUBJECT: 1625-44 V390 NOR = NOVA NORMAE 2007

Event: Nova in Norma

Discovered By: William Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile

Discovery Magnitude: approximately 9.4 on two Technical Pan films taken with an orange filter and an 85-mm camera lens

Discovery Date: June 15.086 UT

Position: Precise position measured by G. Bolt, Perth, Western Australia, from his unfiltered CCD image taken on June 16.7 UT:
R.A. = 16h 32m 11.51s Decl. = -45o 09' 13.4" (2000.0)

Spectra: Giorgio Di Scala, Sydney, NSW, Australia, reported to the AAVSO that a low-resolution spectrum indicates a nova a week or so after outburst, with strong H-alpha emission.

AAVSO Chart(s): A chart for V390 Nor is available via the Variable Star Plotter (VSP). Go to:

http://www.aavso.org/vsp and enter the name V390 NOR.

Report Object to the AAVSO as: 1625-44 V390 NOR

Notes:

a. Discovery originally announced in IAU Central Bureau Electronic Telegram 982 (Daniel W. E. Green) and AAVSO Special Notice #49 (Arne Henden). Information in this Alert Notice was received at AAVSO from William Liller, Giorgio Di Scala, or via IAU Circular No. 8850, ed. Daniel W. E. Green.

b. Additional reported CCD position end figures: 11.46s, 13.6" (R. Santallo, Tahiti, 0.20-m reflector); 11.48s, 13.2" (L. A. G. Monard, Pretoria, S. Africa, 0.35-m reflector).

c. G. Bolt notes that the nearest star appears to be a USNO-B1.0 star located about 3" northwest of the nova at red mag ~15-16.

d. E. Kazarovets, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, reports that N Nor 07 has been assigned the name V390 Nor.

Congratulations to Bill on his latest discovery!

Good observing!
