I get "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable" this morning when I try to open VPhot. I first noticed this yesterday evening.

It seems to still be down. Is there any mechanism to communicate vphot status?
Unfortunately I find this every time there is a problem with VPhot.
The lack of info is frustrating and unhelpful.

Back home after singing in a concert. Checked emails and saw alarm. Connected to the server and cleared the problem.

Remember that VPhot, and other AAVSO digital tools, are maintained by a small group, made up largely of volunteers. Consider also that VPhot went down in the middle of a weekend.
Let's be patient. I'd prefer to have them working on the problem rather than writing forum posts updating "what's going on", explanations that many of us probably would not understand in any case.

Yes, this morning I get the usual HTTP Error 503. It was working (for me) yesterday after George fixed it.
