Background/Interesting Fact
I worked at the AAVSO as a Technical Assistant from 1998 - 2010 and Assistant Director from 2010-2012. I am currently Senior Director of Research and Education Strategy at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. I have a B.S. in Astronomy and a Ph.D in the Learning Sciences from Tufts University where my dissertation was on the educational impact of a variable star citizen science project.
While at the AAVSO I created the light curve generator, quick look tool, data download tool, WebObs, co-created the VSP interface and initiated and led the migration from ASCII text file databases to the MySQL database system. I also ran campaigns (primarily on GRBs and CVs) and wrote two awarded NSF grants for the AAVSO.
