Folks:
In an effort to both improve services and security here at the AAVSO we are finally realizing the completion of a long-standing project - adding a Transport Level Security (SSL) layer to aavso.org. After today you'll be able to see an "https://" on the URL bar at the top of your browser.
This will happen at toay starting at 1800UTC (14:00ET). We expect a momentary drop-out of service, if anything at all.
What does having SSL on the AAVSO website mean? Well, it means that anything you send to the AAVSO website will be encrypted from your computer until it gets to the website computer. It is not encrypted at the computers, its encrypted as it travels from point A to point B. We need to be clear that anything with regard to payments made to us have always been like that, since those are ultimately handed off to another secure service, but now our website as a whole will be secure along those lines as well.
As usual, if there are any questions, please contact me!
