We were notified that the classical nova V1047 Cen (Nova Cen 2005) is rebrightening, having reached approximately V=15.3. This was a fast and very red FeII nova in 2005 and it reached a visual magnitude of 8.5 at peak. I really don’t know what this current event is, but it provides a great opportunity for our community to follow its evolution. Therefore, I would like to request spectroscopic observations by whomever can reach southern hemisphere targets. Please focus around the H-alpha region. No specific resolution is required…

I took a spectra and have uploaded it to the DB.
At V=14.6 it is quite dim so the S/N is low. The Ha emission is clearly evident.

Thank you Terry. The star is indeed faint but nice emission line. Whatever the phenomenon is, it is evolving so I suspect it will go brighter...
... but, again, it is a CV, so who knows :)

I have been asked even prior to the AAVSO alert to observe the star. After the alert was out I decided to sent all data to the AAVSO. In additon to the request in the alert I was asked to take time series which are also in the database. Unfortunately last night and also toight I will be clouded out. It looks like though based on my and Gordon's data that the peak brightness has been reached at least for the moment.

V1047 Cen was interesting this time ... Fred Walter is preparing a report for all observers on the star's behavior based on your data so let's see what the data say...
