I think we should give serious consideration to having only one in-person AAVSO meeting per year. Scientific organizations should lead by example when it comes to cutting greenhouse gas emissions. All the air travel inherent in science conferences is difficult to justify in the face of global warming. Yes, physically meeting up with your colleagues is rewarding and important, but how often do we *need* to do it?

I think we have learned a lot over the pas 18 months about how to effectively communicate remotely. I feel this is a serious concern that should be considered. It would be a shame if such a hard scientific problem continues to get ignored - a shame for us, our children and grandchildren.
