Dear observers
The AAVSO Mentor Program is a key part of our organization.
And it relies on volunteers. People that are willing to help others by sharing their knowledge.
Over the course of these years, we have seen these relationships develop.
As new observers become experienced enough, they may want to share what they have learned with their pals. So the ones who were once mentees can then become mentors and keep the wheels turning.
So it is important that you know that we need you!
We now have over 40 mentors from all over the world, but the number of requests keeps growing. Which is a good thing. More people become interested in contributing to science!
And lately, there has been increasing attention to spectroscopy and exoplanet transits.
The AAVSO now has both a Spectroscopic and an Exoplanet database, so having an increase in the number of observers was something to be expected.
Thus, we would like to invite you to join us as an exoplanet transit or spectroscopy mentor.
For exoplanets, the photometry basics will be the same, but spectroscopy is a whole new world, so our call is mainly focused on spectroscopy this time.
So, if you want to become a mentor and help your peers, this is an excellent opportunity.
If you feel you meet the above requirements, drop us a note to mentor@aavso.org.
More details about the program can be found here.
Best wishes,
Sebastian Otero.
