Hello All,

I have returned to school (undergraduate) after being in a professional practice for 25 years. My "major" is mathematics and the long-term goal is a master's degree. Being in my mid-50s, I don't see myself doing a Ph.D.; especially where part-time study is the best I can do while running a practice. I am also studying C++ and Python and doing core general physics. Academic advisement at the four-year and community college levels is abysmal. Math and astronomy are very serious avocations, but I don't ever see myself seeking employment in the fields. I seek to make a contribution in terms of data analysis and modeling.

Questions: Given this course and pace of study, how best could I serve the astronomy community in a support role for research? What other areas of study would you recommend undertaking with respect to applied mathematics for the purpose of data analysis and modeling?

Thanks -

Tony
