I've been doing some work with Python recently and am very pleased with the many Astro related packages available. I sense that there are many others in AAVSO using it. I'd appreciate suggestions on Python packages for accessing a broad range of the available catalogs. My thought is to be able to quickly put together a python program to access astronomical data for some area I am investigating, pull the data into python/Pandas and do some custom analysis.
The astroquery affiliate to astropy looks promising for my purposes. I'd welcome information on how this package has worked out for others as well as other packages to investigate.
