Light pollution has been a known problem in our community. Other than degrading our dark skies, commonly used high-intensity LED street lights are not efficient (waste of energy) and have a strong impact on human health. Our past president, Dr Mario Motta, has been working hard to educate the public and administrators of the hazards of bright lights, and establish policies for healthier (and more efficient) street lights. Because of his efforts, the American Medical Association discussed and approved a new policy on outdoor lightning, aiming at reducing streetlight harmful effects on human health.
