Should check star has brightness close to target, or it is not so important?

check star choice

Matching the comp star to the target in brightness and color is more important.
But you want to have good data from the check star too.

Expose to get a snr of 100 for target, comp and check.
Which probably means they will be of comparable brightness. :)
