Announcement: New Applications
We are excited to announce the launch of our new applications! We're opening up early access to our new applications for searching, downloading, and submitting photometric observations. You can now access these applications through these links:
We ask for your feedback in order to help us improve these applications. Please send feedback for the applications above to feedback@aavso.org. Note: please avoid duplicating submissions across the two submit applications.
I frequently have this same problem. I've found that clearing my browser's cookies does the trick. The quickest way to do this (in Chrome) is to hit control-shift-delete to bring up the options to clear browsing data. Select just the "Cookies and other site data" option and (to be safe) set the Time Range to "All time." Note that this will log you out of every other web site, and may also force you to re-enter data on some sites when you visit them the next time. A more targeted approach is to use the developer tools (hit F12 to bring that up in Chrome) and delete just the PHPSESSID cookie under the Application tab. This will only log you out of the main AAVSO page, and reset things so you can cleanly log into VSX. I suspect the main site and VSX are trying to use that same cookie, creating a conflict if you've already logged into www.aavso.org.
I cannot sign into VSX despite trying to clear browsing history and cookies. I have also tried multiple browsers and using “forgot password” and changing it successfully. I verified that I am registered, or at least my email account is registered. I continue to get the following pop up message:
User name or password invalid, or login unconfirmed.Register
I wish that would fix that so VSX would use the same username and psw as the main site. Also I almost always have trouble logging in to VSX and have to retry many times to make it happen. A little work on the code perhaps?
Well, VSX is used by people worldwide and as such, being an AAVSO member or having an AAVSO website user account is not a requirement. That's where having an independent login makes sense.
User and password are selected by the user so nothing prevents anyone from using for VSX the same combination used for the AAVSO website login.
We get many reports of issues with the login but they all seem to be solved on their own, when clearing the browser's cache or reseting the password don't work.
Most of the issues arise from people forgetting the correct combination of user account + password + email.
Sometimes the new password is sent to a different address so people do not get it.

Hi Shawn,
Thanks for this information. I only use Firefox on ubuntu linux. The login problem went away all by itself. I did nothing at all.

Any ideas?

The username and psw that you use to access VSX are independent of the credentials that you use to sign into the AAVSO website.
Request a password update from the VSX login page.

Hello Jim,
I agree that it is confusing to have a separate login system for VSX and have added that to the ToDo list.
Many thanks,
Sara
Tnx SRA
