Adding stars to a sequence. APASS

I am trying to add a couple of comps to an existing chart for X Per as VPhot finds very few.

I can do this but then need to find accurate mags and verify they are not variables.

Can I use APASS stars available and do these need to be checked (in a catalogue) for variablilty?

They are prompt with comps.
