October 15, 2007: SN 2007le was discovered in the galaxy NGC 7721 on October 13, 2007 by L.A.G. (Berto) Monard of Pretoria, South Africa (CBET 1100, Monard). The supernova has since been classified as a type-Ia, approximately 7-10 days prior to maximum (CBET 1101, Silverman et al.).
The coordinates of the supernova are:
RA: 23:38:48.41 , Dec -6:31:21.3 (J2000)
The supernova was discovered by Monard at magnitude 15.2 (red) on October 13.79 UT (JD 2454387.29), and has since been observed at magnitude 14.9 (unfiltered) by K. Itagaki (Yamagata, Japan) on October 14.565 UT (JD 2454388.065).
The supernova is approximately 17 arcseconds south of the nucleus of the galaxy. Early photometry will be possible, but late time photometry will be difficult because of background contamination from the host galaxy. A comparison star sequence will be issued as soon as it is available.
Please report all observations to the AAVSO as "SN 2007LE" (AAVSO designation 2333-07).
