September 12, 2007: According to IAU Circular 8868 (Daniel E. W. Green, editor), N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Moscow, reports that the dwarf nova cataclysmic variable 2328+38 HS 2331+3905 is now V455 And, and HS 2331+3905 has been assigned the official name V455 And. The AAVSO validation file has been changed to reflect this new name. Please use V455 AND when reporting observations.
V455 AND is located at RA 23:34:01.55, Dec +39:21:42.9 (J2000)
V455 And went into its first recorded outburst on 2007 September 4, brightening from quiescent magnitude 16 to visual magnitude 13.9 on Sep. 4.8431 UT (E. Muyllaert), and continued to brighten to a maximum of ~8.6 on September 6. It has since declined gradually and as of Sep. 12.4028 UT is at magnitude 10.4 (L. Shotter).
Charts may be plotted by entering the coordinates or the name HS 2331+3905 (soon V455 AND) at VSP: http://www.aavso.org/observing/charts/vsp/
To date nearly 15,000 visual and CCD observations of V455 And (HS 2331+3905) have been submitted to the AAVSO International Database! Please continue to observe this extremely interesting dwarf nova and report your observations to the AAVSO.
Many thanks and good observing!
