February 1, 2011: Sumner Starrfield (Arizona State University) has informed us that Chandra is currently observing the cataclysmic variable T Pyx. He and his colleagues would like supporting optical monitoring of the star during the visitation. One visit is happening now; the next and final visit will occur on February 5 (UT).
T Pyx is typically about 15th magnitude in quiescence. Few observations have been recently submitted to the AAVSO, but they all show the star at quiescence. If you can get a time series with a standard Johnson/Cousins filter with S/N=50 or so, that would be best; second best is to observe unfiltered. Visual observations, especially those with positive detections, are also encouraged. This is an excellent target for our southern hemisphere observers.
