AAVSO 2023 Annual Fundraising Campaign

Flash!  An AAVSO member has offered a $25,000 challenge grant valid through May 31! Increase your impact with your gift!

To members of our AAVSO community and fellow astronomy enthusiasts,

As we kick off our annual campaign, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your past support of the AAVSO. Whether you volunteer, contribute data, or provide financial support, your generosity and dedication to our mission have allowed us to make incredible progress over the last year.

Thanks to your contributions, we accomplished a number of significant things in 2022. The Board hired a new Executive Director, sold our aging headquarters building, and are working to secure outside funding to reduce our draw on the endowment to a sustainable level. Meanwhile the Staff helped AAVSO member data get published in 284 peer-reviewed publications (two of which were in Nature); executed 32 observing campaigns supporting four space telescopes; and strengthened our collaboration with Exoplanet Watch, leading to a two-fold increase in the number of exoplanet transits within our databases. Please see our 2022 Annual Impact Report for further information.

Now, as we look ahead to the coming year, we are eager to continue building on this success and pushing our organization even further. We have set an ambitious goal for our annual campaign, with the aim of raising $110,000 by May 31st.

This year’s campaign is particularly important because it will help us hire a software developer to fix issues with our technological infrastructure, including our website; implement recommendations to improve the quality of our data; and find our niche within the automated sky survey era.

Your contribution to this campaign will make an enormous difference in our ability to achieve these goals. Every dollar counts, and we are grateful for your support at any level.

In closing, I want to thank you again for your past support and for your consideration of our annual campaign. Your generosity is what makes it possible for us to continue advancing the science of variable star astronomy. With your help, we can achieve great things in the coming year.
